Carpenter Ants and Other Destructive Ants
What You Need to Know about Destructive Ants
Washington State is home to many species of destructive ants. Although the summer months are the most common season for ants, they can be found in and around your home almost any time of year. You might see them foraging around your yard or worse you may have found them in your home.
Carpenter Ants are one of the most destructive insects in Washington State. Once they have established scent trails or satellite colonies, they won’t go without a fight. Typical carpenter ant infestations contain one parent nest and multiple satellite colonies. The parent nest is home to the queen, her brood, and the worker ants. Satellite colonies are made up of thousands of worker ants.
Odorous House Ants (sometimes called Sugar Ants) are most often seen in the late winter and early spring. Indoors they build colonies in the walls of your house or even in potted plants. Outdoors they will build colonies in exposed soil or in rocks.

How To Reduce the Risk of Ants Causing Serious Damage
to Your Home
To help keep you house free of ant infestation, trim tree branches and other plants that are in contact with the sides or roof of your house. Fill any cracks or other openings in your foundation. Make sure firewood is stacked away from your house and not in direct contact with the ground. If treated quickly, ants rarely do significant or serious damage to homes or buildings. However, if left untreated for extended periods of time they will cause extreme damage.
